Barcelona 3-0 Celta Vigo: Neymar leads Barça into convincing win

Barcelona didn’t slow down after their 3-4 win at the Clasico against Real Madrid last weekend, and this Wednesday night they won comfortably against Celta de Vigo, with a 3-0 final result. Gerardo Martino made a few changes to his line-up, bringing Batra, Adriano, Song and Aléxis Sánchez into the starting eleven. Nevertheless, the stars of the show were Lionel Messi and the Brazil international Neymar Jr.

The opener came in around the 6th minute and already on a stage of the game where Barça had created several goalscoring chances. It would be Messi dismantling Celta de Vigo‘s defense, as he spotted Alexis Sánchez with space already inside the visitors’ box and immediately laid him a low pass. The Chile international then assisted Neymar in the middle and the Brazilian simply had to tap it in towards an empty net.

Celta de Vigo wasn’t posing any kind of threats and Barcelona would reach the second through the natural course of the game. We were playing in the 30th minute of the first half when Andrés Iniesta sent a terrific pass to Lionel Messi that left him 1-on-1 against Celta de Vigo‘s goalkeeper. The Argentina international went around Yoel Romero and then touched the ball into the back of the net, making it 2-0 for Barcelona.

The final score was set only deep in the second half, and once again it was Alexis Sánchez assisting Neymar for another goal from the Brazilian. The former Udinese forward launched a quick counter-attack by sending in a very long pass to Neymar from one half of the field to the other, and then the 22-year old kept his composure when he already had two defenders closing down on him, just before he struck the ball low past Yoel. That was the second goal from Neymar in the game and his 14th for Barcelona since he arrived at the club last summer. A very important home win for Barcelona!

Next Saturday, we’ll have an always exciting Espanyol vs Barcelona derby for La Liga, set to kickoff at 4PM in Spain, at the Cornellà-El Prat stadium. The Blaugrana are now 2nd in the league, 1 point behind Atletico Madrid and 2 points on top of Real Madrid, who dropped to 3rd place after losing 2-1 against Sevilla this Wednesday night.

The only negative note of the night was Victor Valdés‘s knee injury, who torn his ACL and should be out of competition in the next 6 to 8 months. This means not only that he might miss the rest of the season for Barcelona, but he’ll also miss the upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and has probably made his last appearance for Barça, as he might get transferred next summer.
