Cavani plays down dispute with Neymar
PSG are flying high in both the French League and the UEFA Champions League. Considering the caliber of players they have in their team, everyone expects them to win both the UEFA Champions League and the French Ligue 1. And to be honest, considering the amount of money they spent in the summer, it will be a massive surprise if they do not win both titles. Several new betting apps have had many football fans backing the French giants in the last few months.
What could however derail their season is the inability to keep all their players happy. Especially with so many big name stars in the team such as Di Maria, Cavani, Mbappe and world record signing Neymar.
A little less than three weeks ago, Neymar and Cavani had a little on field disagreement between themselves over who will take penalties for PSG in the 2-0 win over Lyon on September 17. Both initially argued over who should take free free kicks. Cavani was given the responsibility in the 2016/2017 season, when Neymar was not yet a PSG player and felt he should continue to take that responsibility which led to a little brawl.
Although Cavani ended up taking the penalty against Lyon and missing it, both were seeing celebrating each other’s goal in the 6-2 win over Bordeaux a few weekends ago, suggesting both have put the ugly incident behind them. And to further buttress this, Edinson Cavani has played down the dispute.
“These are things to do with football. Sometimes things are blown out of proportion. Everyone is aware of that. These are things that are resolved within a changing room.”
“Everything has a solution and everything is calm now. The important thing is that we all fight for the same aim, whether it’s with the national team or for the club.”
This is certainly good news for PSG and their fans. Both players working together and putting aside their egos will surely benefit PSG. However, it would be a surprise if they have more clashes of egos. Neymar obviously left Barça in order to move to a team where he will be the star of the team which may not go well with Cavani, who has been PSG’s best player for some time now. If it doesn’t work out though, several Arsenal blogs have already started claiming they would gladly welcome any of them in their club.
It is really a ticking bomb for PSG, especially considering the fact that they also have other big name stars such as Di Maria and Mbappe. PSG manager Unai Emery has a big job in his hands trying to make all his star players happy. And with reports already claiming PSG could be signing Griezmann, it can only get worst for the manager…
