Neymar gets nominated for the “Best American Player in La Liga” award
The Colombian Carlos Bacca (Sevilla), the Argentinian Angel Di María (Real Madrid) and the Brazilian Neymar Jr (FC Barcelona), are the 3 nominees for the “Best American Player in La Liga” award in respect to last season (2013-14). The winner’s name will be announced next Monday, during La Liga‘s gala event.
Angel Di María
From the 3 names in this final list, only one of them has already left Spain. Angel Di María got transferred from Real Madrid to Manchester United during the last days of this summer’s transfer window, but his contribution to the Merengues as an influential midfielder was definitely very important. He finished last season in La Liga with 34 appearances, 4 goals and 17 assists, but couldn’t help Real Madrid going beyond the 3rd place in the Spanish League standings.
Carlos Bacca
In his first season in Spain, Bacca immediately made a great impression in Sevilla and easily proved to have been a great bet for the Andalusia side. He had 35 appearances in La Liga for his new club, 27 of those being straight starts, and he managed to score a total of 14 goals at the end of the campaign. Moreover, he also delivered 5 assists and turned out to be a vital piece in his team’s journey that ended up leading them to finish 5th in La Liga.
Neymar Jr
Finally, but not the least, we get to FC Barcelona‘s rising star, Neymar Jr. As many people projected, the Brazilian wasn’t going to show his best football right on his first year. However and having in mind all the circumstances around him, his first-year numbers were quite impressive already. Neymar had a total of 26 appearances in the Spanish League, scoring 9 goals and assisting his teammates in 8 different occasions. Barcelona ended up finishing the season in 2nd place behind Atletico Madrid, but it sure wasn’t for the lack of contribution coming from their Brazilian ace.
