Neymar has finally had the chance to know what it is like to play in the UEFA Champions League and as usual, the star of the night was once again Lionel Messi. The Argentinian didn’t want to stay behind Cristiano Ronaldo‘s treble obtained in Galatasaray vs Real Madrid from this past Tuesday and with his hat-trick against Ajax last night, he tied the Portuguese on the top of the competition’s top goalscorers table.
Messi got the opener halfway in the first 45 minutes, in a well taken free-kick near Ajax‘s penalty area. The second came up only after the break, but everything seemed far too easy for the Argentinian star. He cutted inside, got past a couple defenders and struck it past Vermeer without any difficulty. The 3-0 was fabricated by Neymar, as he was the one who made a perfect cross on the left attacking side, which ended up being headed into the back of the net by Gerard Piqué. The Brazilian is not scoring as many goals as it would be expected from him by now, but at least he seems to be improving his understanding with the rest of his teammates.
The 4th goal came up at the 75th minute and it was the third from Messi on the night. Xavi Hernandez, who started this game on the bench, assisted Lionel Messi on the middle with a short low pass and the 26-year old did what he does best which is finding a way to score goals even when it seems there are too many defenders in front of him. 4-0 for Barça and the job was more than done at the Camp Nou. Barcelona will play again this Saturday for La Liga, as they’ll be visiting Rayo Vallecano.
