Barcelona and Atletico Madrid met again one week after the clash in the Vicente Calderón, but this time the Spanish Super Cup title decision was on the line. Neymar started the game with Lionel Messi on his side, but as many expected, the two players are still far from showing the connection that is expected to be seen from them. The Brazilian and Argentinian stars were on the pitch for the full 90 minutes, but bumped into a very well organized Atletico Madrid‘s defense throughout the entire game. The Colchoneros showed their usual warrior attitude on the pitch and made their opponents sweat to come out with a positive result.
With a 1-1 result earned at the Vicente Calderón just a week ago thanks to a great header from Neymar, Barça knew they had scored an important away goal that could turn out to be a capital factor. The game at the Camp Nou dragged on with a stubborn goalless tie and as we were entering its final minutes, Tato Martino certainly realized that an unconventional 0-0 draw would be more than enough to assure the title wasn’t going to slip from their hands. Nevertheless, it was Barça who got more close to score near the end, as the home side were given a penalty-kick opportunity. Lionel Messi stepped up to take it but ended up missing it and gave Atletico another boost of motivation for the dying minutes of the match. Barça managed to hold on to the draw though and got to celebrate their first title of the season.
